A young Powers Catholic swim team placed third out of 11 teams at the two-day Greater Genesee County Swimming and Diving Championships held at Fenton High School Friday and Saturday. Junior Sarah Kirtek led the way for the Chargers finishing 2nd in the 200 Individual Medley, and 3rd in the 100 Butterfly – both in State Meet qualifying times.
Sophomore Sydney Lawrence also qualified for the State Meet in finishing 3rd in the 50 Freestyle. Lawrence also finished 9th in the 100 Butterfly. Sophomore Allie Dasky finished 5th and 6th in the 100 and 50 Freestyle events. Freshman Emily Moriartey placed 9th in the 200 IM and 100 Backstroke. Freshman Jacqueline Krznarich finished 5th in the 200 Free and 9th in the 500 Free. Also swimming well enough to make Saturday’s finals were Junior Barbara Davidek who finished 12th in the 200 Freestyle, and Junior Tessa Peabody who finished 14th in the 100 Breaststroke.
All three of Powers relay teams finished in third place. The 200 Medley Relay team of Moriartey (backstroke), Lawrence (butterfly), Kirtek (breaststroke), and Dasky (freestyle) finished with a State Meet qualifying time. The 200 Free Relay team was composed of Kristin Ammerman, Davidek, Krznarich, and Lawrence. Ammerman, Krznarich, Moriartey, and Kirtek comprised the 400 Free Relay team.
