The Powers Chargers ran their overall record to 5-3 with a convincing 40-8 defeat of the Northwestern Wildcats at Atwood Stadium. The improving Powers defense limited a third straight opponent to a single touchdown to key a three game winning streak. Joey Zorn led with 8 tackles (5 solos, 2 assists, 1 sack) and Donald Scott snared an interception.
Zack Talovich’s 17-yard strike to Peyton Beauchamp opened the scoring in the 1st quarter as Powers raced to a 27-0 lead by halftime. Adding to the Wildcat misery was 78-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Donald Scott to open the second half. It was the third kickoff return TD for the Chargers this season. Luke Brcic, Jullian Wiggins, Zorn, and Talovich each found the end zone on short runs and Morgan Livingston kicked 4 extra points. Additionally, Matt Wiskur led the receiving corps with 67 yards on two catches. Powers dominated in field position, never punting in the contest.
Powers goes on the road in week nine in search of an automatic playoff berth at undefeated Davison Friday night.
