Meet Recap

The Powers track led off the 2017 season by competing in the Jim Gardiner Catholic School Invite at Aquinas College on March 25. The men’s and women’s team each finished 3rd in the very competitive 8 team field. The men finished with 75 points, 12 behind Lansing Catholic Central and a half point behind Grand Rapids Catholic Central.
Individually Kaden Nelson and Chandler Lorf led the Chargers with 3 first place finishes each. Nelson took medalist honors in the 60 Meter hurdles and High Jump and combined with Joey Zorn, Hollister Fechik and Lorf to win the Sprint Medley Relay and came back in with a 4th place finish in the 60 meter dash.

Chandler Lorf also had a big day as he anchored the Sprint Medley and Distance Medley relays to victories, was the individual champion in the mile and came from behind in the mile relay to finish 3rd in a photo finish. Lorf was joined in the Distance Medley Relay by Ethan Hamilton, Brian Wiltse and Sam Gross. Joining Lorf on the mile relay was Hamilton, Sasha Bennet and Joey Zorn.

Also scoring for the chargers were Hollister Fechick 6th place in the high jump. Cristian Rodriguez 6th place in the 400 meter dash and Joey Zorn, 7th in the 60 meter dash.

The women’s meet was even closer as Powers finished in 3rd place with 82.5 points. Only 5 points behind champions Grand Rapids West Catholic.

Newcomer to track and field, Anna Ruhstorfer started her track career with a win in the 60 meter dash. Also picking up a first place finish for the chargers was senior Courtney Reddy in the Pole Vault clearing a personal record of 8 foot.

The Chargers were strong in the 400 as Junior Madison Drass finished as the runner up to lead Freshmen Emily Lendzion and Aerin Pertler with 2-3-4 finishes.

Julia Vanitvelt has a strong day with a 2nd place finish in the mile and a 3rd place finish in the 3000 meters.

Junior Alexys Granta finished 2nd in the 60 meter hurdles.

Powers women performed well on the relays the mile relay team of Ruhstorfer, Pertler, Meghan Lawrence and Drass finished 3rd, the Sprint Medley relay team of Ruhstorfer, Granta, Lawrence and Chandler Bloom finished in 6th and the Distance Medley Relay team of Libbie Gleason, Drass, Blom and Paige Deitering finished in 3rd.

Also scoring for the Chargers were Libbie Gleason 5th in the mile, Paige Deitering 5th in the 3000 meters and Mia Sakashita 7th in the Long Jump.
