The track team competed in the annual Blue Devil relays at Lake Fenton High School on Saturday April 22nd. On the track all of the running events were 4 person relays and in the field events the performance of a 2 person team is totaled up for a team score.
Despite winning 7 of the 13 events the womenâs team was edged out of Hartland High School 112 to 108 in the 5 team field. Hartland recorded 4 first place finishes and in each of the 7 events won by the Chargers Hartland finished second.
First place finishes for the Chargers included the Middle Distance Relay (800-400-400-800) team of Paige Deitering, Madison Drass, Anna Ruhstorfer and Julia Vanitvelt, the 400 meter relay team of Emma Brock, Kit Goyette, Victoria Pyrett and Ruhstorfer, the 3200 meter relay team of Lindsey Braman, Deitering, Libbie Gleason and Vanitvelt, the Distance Medley Relay (800-400-1200-1600) Team of Deitering, Braman, Gleason and Vanitvelt, the Sprint Medley Relay (400-200-200-400) of Ruhstorfer, Brock, Pyrett and Deitering and the Pole Vault duo of Courtney Reddy and Delaney Goggins.
On the girls side Seniors Julia Vanitvelt and Anna Ruhstorfer and Junior Paige Deitering were 4 event champions.
The Chargers placed second in the high jump, discus long jump, 1600 relay, 3rd in the shuttle hurdle relay and 5th in the shot put.
The menâs team finished 3rd behind Saginaw Valley rival Flint Carmen-Ainsworth and Division 1 Hartland High school. The men didnât record a single victory but were led by 5 second place and 3 third place finishes.
Finishing 2nd was the Middle Distance relay (800-400-400-800). Chandler Lorf and Ethan Hamilton ran the 800 meter legs while Myles Hall and Brian Wiltse ran the 400 meter legs. Also finishing second were the 400 and 800 meter relay teams. Joey Zorn, Kaden Nelson and Henry Warner ran on both teams. Elliott Pigee led off the 400 meter relay which ran the fastest time of the season in 45.15. Nick Stein led off the 800 meter relay which was second to a very strong Carmen-Ainsworth team. Hollister Fechik and Kaden Nelson teamed up in the high jump to clear a combined height of 11 feet 4 inches which was good enough for second.
The combination of Paul Badr and Ben Abbot finished 2nd in the discus with a combined distance of 238 feet 5 inches.
Finishing 3rd was the shuttle hurdle relay team of Nelson, Cristian Rodriguez, Andrew Jandernoa and Paul Shaw running a time of 1:19.25 which is the fastest shuttle hurdle relay run by a Powers team in almost a decade. The 1600 meter relay team of Ethan Hamilton, Chandler Lorf, Joey Zorn and Henry Warner finished 3rd in 3:37.03 which is the fastest time of the season for the Chargers. The Sprint Medley Relay (400-200-200-400) team of Cristina Rodriguez, Nick Stein, Elliott Pigee and Hollister Fechick also finished 3rd.
Finishing 4th was the long jump combination of Nick Stein and Joe Bade. Powers was sitting in 6th place until Joe Badeâs final attempt which pushed the Chargers in front of Fenton and Lake Fenton. Also finishing in 4th was the shot put team of Ben Abbot and Alan Hamlett, the 3200 meter relay team of Lorf, Hamilton, Wiltse and Spidle. Colin Zelley finished 5th in the pole vault.
The menâs and womenâs teams are both back in action on Tuesday April 25th at Carmen-Ainsworth Junior high in a dual meet against Carmen-Ainsworth.
