Powers Catholic High School
Detroit Country Day
The Lady Chargers traveled to Detroit Country Day for their last game of the regular season on Monday night. The Yellow Jackets came out of the gate fast on their Senior night, quickly netting the first 3 goals of the game before the Chargers regained their composure and secured a 15-7 victory and improved their regular season record to 10-7.
“We have had great competition this season and many learning experiencesâ, said Powers Varsity Lacrosse Coach Karlee Braniff. âWe have continually grown smarter and strong week after week. The underclassmen have stepped up and have really helped us out when we needed it. Also, the upperclassmen’s experience has given us the confidence to pull off some big wins. This is one of the hardest working teams I’ve ever been apart of, when they come together and click on the field they accomplish tremendous goals.”
Point leaders for the game (Goals+Assists) were Grace Andreski with 5 (4 Goals, 1 A, 1 GB, 3 DC), Megan Pyrett with 3 (3 goals, 2 GB, 2 Int), Natalie Ragnone with 3 (2 Goals, 1 A, 5 GB), Allison Polakowski with 3 (2 Goals, 1 A, 1 GB), Jillian Mansour with 2 (2 Goals, 1 GB), Abby Polakowski with 1 (1 Goal, 2 GB, 1 Int) and Tessa Peabody with 1 (1 Goal, 1 GB, 1 DC). Soph Jennie Deneen had a great game in the draw circle securing 2 draw controls while Jr Maddie Mathenia scooped up 3 ground balls. Jr. Goalie Anastasia Rousseau turned in a great performance in goal for the Chargers going 13/20 with a 65% save percentage.
On Thursday 5/18, the Chargers start the MHSAA Districts at Atwood Stadium versus the Panthers of Dewitt High School. Please come out and support the Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team and our graduating seniors as they look to extend their season! Faceoff on Thursday is set for 5pm.
