Flint Powers Catholic advances in the MHSAA playoffs with a 20-8 victory over Bay City Western Monday evening at Atwood Stadium.
The Powers Catholic offense unleashed 61 shots at the BC Goaltender. Powers scored 7 in the first period and never looked back. 10 Powers players registered goals in the scorebook led by Zack Talovich with 5, Miles Cramer with 4, Josh Warda netted 3, Fidel Carino sniped 2 and Ben Affrica, Austin Willey, Jacob Milenich, Ben Kehoe, Jack Hanchett & Luke Phillpotts all added a goal. Warda also dished 5 assists, Cramer had 3 assists and Affica added 2 assists.
Noah Gadola was the winning Goaltender in his first Varsity/Playoff appearance.
The Defense was led by Kelson Connors with 7 Ground Balls & 3 Forced Turnovers which led to a couple of scores. Mason Phillpotts, Colton Kidd, Connor Wilkie & Josh Warda all had 4 GB’s.
The faceoff trio of Fidel Carino, Colton Kidd & Michael Wilson controlled 20/29 faceoffs which gave Powers the possession advantage most of the game.
Powers travels to Pontiac to face Notre Dame Prep in the second round of the playoffs Wednesday evening at 7:00pm
