Powers Catholic High School
Lumen Christi High School
Powers Catholic defeated Jackson Lumen Christi 6-2 in the opener of the Sizzler Memorial Tourney at Eastern Michigan behind six solid innings by Zack Mazza. Cam Conover closed out the Titans in the seventh. Powers got ahead and stayed ahead by scoring in five of seven innings. Joey Beauchamp led with three hits and two RBI’s; Brennan Wiggins added a double and two RBI’s.
After Everest Collegiate defeated Lumen Christi 11-4 behind a seven-run 4th, the Chargers exploded for 15 runs in the first three innings to quickly put away the Mountaineers. Seven Charger batters got hits, and Will Frappier had a pair. Nick Riley and Sam Petraca combined for the three-inning shutout. The Powers defense was outstanding today, especially shortstop Spencer Lash who had a handful of dazzling plays.
And by the way, Coach Dutkowski reached the 700-win milestone in the process. He knows the wins represent 36 seasons of work by great young men and that no one ever achieves success alone. A tip of the cap to the players, assistant coaches, parents, adminstrators, teachers, and all who support Powers Catholic athletics. Special gratitude to wife, Valerie, and adult children Jill and Vince. Entitled to Nothing, Grateful for Everything!
