Powers Catholic traveled to Saginaw Arthur Hill on Friday, spoiling the Lumberjacks’ homecoming by coming away with 44-6 win to even its record at 3 and 3.
Joe Zorn scored two long touchdowns, the first a 54-yard catch and run of a Joe Beauchamp pass; the second, a 74-yard gallop up the middle. For good measure, Zorn added another TD from inside the five. Beauchamp scored on a 3-yard scramble and Luke Phillpotts found the end zone on two quarterback sneaks. Zack Mazza provided a special teams highlight by zigzagging more than 60 yards on a punt return before getting knocked out of bounds on the one.
Kyle Chalut booted 5 extra points and a 26-yard field goal to round out the scoring.
Cooper Willey led a late-game goal line stand and had 7 tackles. Adam Krupa picked off a pass and Logan Coon recovered a fumble to help stymie Arthur Hill. All in all, the ball-hawking Charger defense had a good night.
Powers Catholic returns to action this Friday at Atwood Stadium as the school celebrates Homecoming number 49 against the Flint Jaguars.
