Chargers News · Wild Seven-run 6th Rally Caps Diamond Sweep

After winning game one over host Goodrich 5-0 behind Zack Mazza’s 2-hit pitching and J.D. Garman’s 2-RBI’S, the Charger batters found themselves behind 7-2 in the top of sixth with darkness closing in. A few walks and several base hits later the scorenarrowed to  7-6  with two outs and the bases loaded. Senior Brayden Grossi then delivered a clutch single to left center, driving in the go ahead runs. An errant Martian throw made it 9-7 Powers.  Goodrich responded with a run in the bottom of the sixth, but Joe Beauchamp struck out the game’s final batter, stranding a would-be tying run at third, for a 9-8 win. Michael Romzek collected 2 hits and 2 RBI’S, and Logan Knoll had 2 hits and scored twice.

The 8-0 Chargers open in the first round of the Greater Flint Tournament this Friday,  8 p.m. at Whaley Park. Powers Catholic is currently the tourney’s two-time defending champ. Ortonville-Brandom will provide the opposition (weather permitting).  Stay tuned.
