The Chargers were down 21-0 to visiting Carman-Ainsworth at Atwood Stadium last Friday night before getting on the board mid-way in the 2nd quarter to draw within 21-7 at the half. Then, after the break, Powers exploded for 35 more unanswered points to roll to a 42-21 victory. The win earned the TEAM first-seed position in its MHSAA Football Playoff District. The Chargers take on Williamston this coming Friday, Nov. 1st at Atwood in a 7 p.m. start. It will be a rematch with the Hornets who knocked Powers off in the District Finals in 2018.
Luke Phillpotts scored on TD runs of 1, 2, and 9 yards and he connected with Alex Shores on a 7-yard scoring pass. Tristan Brenner hit paydirt on a 17-yard run, and the Powers defense chipped in with a fumble recovery in the end zone for another TD (Cooper Willey and Andrew Campbell “shared” the recovery: you can go to replay on your own, folks). Emily Lendzion was perfect on six extra points.
Nevaeh Sanders had a crucial 70-yard kickoff return and nabbed three passes; Holden Warner was in on 10 tackles to lead the turnaround defensive performance. Phillpotts had an interception as did Ben McCartney. Michael Romzek added a fumble recovery.
It’s now full-speed ahead for the 7-2 TEAM 50! Go Chargers; see everyone Friday night at Atwood Stadium.
