The Chargers ran into tough, number one-rated Detroit Country Day, falling 21-0 in the MHSAA Division 4 Semi-finals at Howell Parker Middle School Stadium. The loss prevented Powers from returning to Ford Field for the first time since 2015. Unable to capitalize on first quarter opportunities, the Chargers and Yellow Jackets went into the second scoreless. Country Day took control by putting together a pair of scoring drives to go into halftime ahead 14-0. From there, the Yellow Jackets added a third quarter TD, and Powers was enable to crack the code of DCD’s lockdown defense in the second half.
The loss snapped the 10-3 Chargers seven-game winning streak, but TEAM 50 joined only a handful of Powers Catholic football teams in school history to record double-digit victories in a season. It was a remarkable ride led by an outstanding Senior Class.
Coach Jerry Todd and his staff convey grateful thanks to the players, families, fans, students, administration, and support staff for the many kindnesses, well-wishes, encouragement, and flat-out hard work and effort that made the 2019 season a rousing, memorable success. Much love and respect to everyone who had a hand in making it happen.
For now, Happy Thanksgiving to Chargers everywhere, and Godspeed to everyone this holiday season. Support all our student-athletes the remainder of the year, and we’ll see you next Fall!
