Chargers News · Powers Catholic beat Brandon for the second time in 5 days to advance to District Final.

Powers Catholic entered Wednesday’s contest vs Brandon for what people could say the second time. The only difference in this game compared to last Thursday’s game is this game is a win or go home scenario. The Chargers beat this same Brandon team at Goggins Field house last week. The Blackhawks of Brandon had a bye in the first round of the districts. Powers Catholic won the game by 19 points but the game was a one possession game late in the third quarter. In this contest the Chargers seemed to play like they had beaten them already. The Chargers were lethargic and give Brandon credit for taking advantage of that. The Chargers led 13-9 to end the first period despite the fact of their sloppy play. In the second quarter the Chargers took control of the game and pushed its lead to as much as 20 points. Powers Catholic outscored the Blackhawks 21-10 in the second period and took a 34-19 lead into the break.

In the second half Brandon would keep fighting as if their season was on the line. Brandon won the quarter by outscoring the Chargers 16-13. The Chargers carelessness with the basketball hurt them in the quarter and the whole second half. Brandon cut the Chargers lead 12 to end the quarter. As the fourth quarter begin Brandon kept coming at the Chargers. Brandon would put up its first 20 point quarter vs the Chargers in the past 8 quarters including the last game. The Chargers would hold on to get the win 66-57. Brandon played very hard to end its season.

The Chargers have now won 4 straight games and it was the 4th consecutive game the Chargers had multiple guys in double figures. The Chargers were led by Luke Phillpotts 16 points, 9 rebounds & 5 steals. Gabriel Avery returned to the Chargers lineup and pitched in 10 points & 4 assist and Jesse Carpenter had 13 points. Nevaeh Sanders had 9 points and 5 rebounds. The Chargers now advance to play Goodrich in the District Finals on Friday at 7:00 PM. This is the Chargers third consecutive year advancing the to the District Final game.

With the effects on things on across the country it is not clear if fans will be able to attend the game on Friday. It could be limited to Immediate family, guardians and few administrators. The MHSAA will be having a ruling Thursday morning to make a decision on what happens next
