The Chargers spotted a 14-0 lead to the home team Mt. Pleasant Oilers before Austin Hamlin connected with Donovan Franklin for a 60-yard TD pass. Mason Luebke kicked the extra point to make it 14-7. Both teams settled in during a scoreless 2nd quarter, making it anyone’s game going into halftime.
Mt. Pleasant scored on a long touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage in the 3rd quarter to increase its lead to 21-7. On the next series, the Chargers advanced inside the Oiler’s 15-yard line, but couldn’t muster a score. Mt. Pleasant added a 4th quarter touchdown drive to put the game away.
Hamlin connected on 9 of 17 passes for 151 yard to pace the offense. Ryan Brumley was in on 12 tackles and recovered a fumble to lead the Charger defense. Luke Fritz and Connor Owens added 11 and 9 tackles, respectively; Jacob Beauchamp nabbed an interception.
The 1-3 Chargers continue to improve, but the challenge continues next Friday at Atwood Stadium when Powers Catholic hosts a 3-1 Grand Blanc team.
