Chargers News · Sophomore Connor Owens a Wrestling State Qualifier Once Again

Sophomore Connor Owens finished the regular season undefeated during what most would agree is the strangest wrestling season to date, and that was just the beginning. Owens cruised through his individual district at 160 pounds outscoring his opponents 53-7 in route to three tech. Falls. and a district title.

This past weekend Owens took to the mat once again at regionals and kept his undefeated season intact. Going 3-0 on the day and defeating both the #10 and #11 ranked wrestlers in his division. Being crowned regional champ for Division 3 160 lbs. qualifies him the individual state meet Friday, April 2nd at Kalamazoo’s Wings Arena.

The state meet is nothing new for Owens. As a freshman he placed 4th at 140 lbs just one year ago. That experience combined with his “no one works hardest than I do” mentality puts him in a position to compete against anyone. This mentality has been evident all off-season, in every match, and in his everyday life. Receiving the #2 seed in his bracket he will open against Kyle Petrie from Lake Odessa Lakewood. Wrestling is set to begin at 10:00 am and Owens will be the first match of the day with the tournament starting at 160 lbs.

We wish Connor the best of luck Friday and as always GO CHARGERS!
