Game Recap

The Powers Catholic Chargers boys soccer team are back in the Division III state championship game after a shoot out victory over the Detroit Country Day Yellow Jackets last night. In a thrilling and defensive game, neither side was able to find the back of the net in regulation or in the two overtime periods. It took a shoot out to determine a winner. Brendan Tilden stopped the first two shots with great saves. The first three Chargers converted to put pressure on DCD’s fourth shooter. He missed the kick over the net clinching the victory for the Chargers. The boys move on to play in the MHSAA Division III state finals on Saturday. It will be a 3:00 kick-off at Comstock Park High School. We would love to see you there and cheer us on as we vie for a blue banner. Go Chargers!

Game Recap

The Powers Catholic Chargers boys soccer team are regional champions in back to back years as they beat the Lansing Catholic Cougars last night 3-0. In the rematch of the 2016 state semifinals, neither team was able to break the game’s deadlock in the first half. Lansing Catholic’s goalkeeper made some tremendous saves to keep the Chargers off of the board. In the second half Blase Haynes was able to break the tie. Stephen Goza sent a cross field entry ball to streaking Kyle Genord. Genord took a Cougar defender on and laid the ball off to Haynes who took a touch and buried it in the top corner. Soon after Bryan Lendzion added an insurance goal that hit the crossbar and landed over the goal line before bouncing back. Late in the game Mason Smith finished off the scoring by catching the Cougar defense and goalkeeper off of their line. Brendan Tilden and the Charger team defense held Lansing Catholic off of the board for the 13th shut out of the season. The boys advance to the state semi-finals Wednesday, November 1st, at Howell Parker Middle School. They will face the winner of the Grosse Ile/Detroit Country Day.. Kick off is at 6. See you there and go Chargers!
