The Chargers return to Goggins field house for the first game in the new year. The Tigers of Bendle were the opponent. Bendle is under first year coach Kyle Richardson who is looking to gain some momentum heading into their league play. Powers Catholic have played 5 non league games heading into this contest.
The Chargers came out hot in the first frame. Five Chargers scored in the opening quarter as the Chargers got a 15-8 lead. The Chargers defense forced Bendle into 7 first quarter turnovers. In the second quarter the Chargers would continue their hot shooting. Owen Lobsinger had 4 three pointers in the first half with three of them coming in the second quarter. Lobsinger had 17 points in the first half. The Chargers grew their lead to a 35-18 halftime edge.
In the 3rd quarter Bendle would get their offense clicking with some hot shooting by sophomore Dayton Mills. Mills had 3 made three point field goals in the quarter. Bendle had its highest scoring quarter of the game with 17. The Chargers offense however continued to push forward. Tommy Hagerman hit a jump shot and Luke Phillpotts layup gave the Chargers a 52-35 lead. In the fourth quarter the Chargers defense would stifle the Tigers. Powers Catholic held Bendle to just 6 points in the final quarter. The Chargers offense continued to play well and they cruised to a 75-41 victory.
Powers Catholic held Bendle to 35% field goal shooting and just 17% from the 3 point line. The Chargers forced the Tigers into 20 turnovers. Owen Lobsinger had 22 points & 6 rebounds, Luke Phillpotts had 13 points and 6 rebounds. Tommy Hagerman had a season high 12 points, Cole Malenich and Dalton Davidson had 9 points and 4 and 5 rebounds respectively. The Chargers shot a 57% from the field. The Charger will return to action in a SVL contest with Carman-Ainsworth on the road Friday.
