tonight’s match up of the Chargers vs crosstown SVL foe Davison proved to be a thrilling contest. The Chargers jumped out early scoring the first 5 points of the game on a Elijah Reeds floater and Malik Seay tip in to take a early 4-0 advantage. Davison would comeback and exploit the Chargers miscues on offense. Cam Baker’s 3 point basket was the first basket by the Cardinals and they would take a 12-5 advantage to end the first quarter. In the second quarter the Chargers would go on a big surge. The Chargers pressure defense forced Davison into some turnovers and Powers took the lead on late in the second quarter 26-22. Powers held a 26-23 advantage at the half.

The Chargers came out focused in the third quarter opening up the half on a Lobsinger 3 pointer and opened up a advantage by as many as 8 points early in the third quarter. Davison would chip back in the game possession by possession and would outscore the Chargers 14-11 in the quarter to tie the game going into the 4th. Both teams would go on runs and droughts in the 4th quarter. The Chargers had the ball with under a minute to play with a chance to tie the score. Elijah Redds missed a floater in the lane trailing by one and Cam Baker made 2 free throws putting the Cardinals up by 3 with 21 seconds to play. After a Charger timeout Owen Lobsinger would hit a 3 point shot to tie the game with 4 seconds left. The game looked like it was heading for over time until Brendan Sullivan who scored a game high 23 points threw a full court bullet to Cade Coleman who caught the ball over Redds and shot a layup to give Davison a 50-48 lead with 1 second to play. The Chargers had a last shot opportunity that wouldn’t connect and the Cardinals escaped with a 50-48 win.

Powers Catholic was led by Lobsinger with 22 points 7 rebs who was plagued by his 5 turnovers in the game. Elijah Redds had 11 points. Davison was led by Brendan Sullivan who had 23 points. The Chargers are back in action Friday at Frankenmuth in their last contest before Christmas.
