The Fenton Relays were held on Saturday, September 7th, again offering an energetic and fun competition for area swimmers. The Charger girls performed well, coming away with a 5th place finish in a field of 14 teams. This was an impressive improvement from 2018, where Powers took 10th. Fenton, Brighton and Grand Blanc, all perennial powerhouses, took the top three spots. Saginaw Heritage looks to have a great team this year in the Saginaw Valley League and squeaked ahead of Powers to take fourth.
All of the Powers girls were enthusiastic and ready to go, and it showed! With only one relay winning their event, everyone on the team contributed solid performances. The winning 200 Medley Relay team of Hannah Murawski, Abby Merz, Lara Wujciak and Lauren Taylor took a decisive first place finish by 3 seconds. The foursome were state qualifiers in the same event in 2018 and just missed the cut on Saturday. They’ll have multiple opportunities in the coming weeks to qualify this year. In diving, Emily Snyder and Halle Purcell also made the Chargers proud, taking 3rd.
The Chargers compete this week against Lapeer and Bay City Western. Go Chargers!
