Christmas break was all in the air for tonight’s contest vs Frankenmuth. The student section was dressed in Santa outfits all over the gym. The Chargers looked as if their Christmas break had begun before the game however. The Chargers shot abysmal in the first half. Powers Catholic also piled up 10 turnovers in the first half which led to them scoring a season low 14 points in the first half. Frankenmuth led 21-14 at the half. The Chargers defense kept them in striking defense.

The Chargers scored 15 points in the third quarter but still trailed by 7 heading into the final quarter. In the 4th quarter the Chargers defense stayed the course. The Chargers tied the score on a Elijah Redds floater at 36 apiece with 5 minutes left in the 4th. A Frankenmuth 3 point basket would push them back ahead but Junior Luke Phillpotts would score the next 4 Charger points to give them a 1 point lead with just over a minute to play. After a Frankenmuth timeout they would answer with a 3 point play to put them back ahead 42-40 with 40 seconds remaining. The Chargers would miss on their next attempt and be subject to having to foul in order to get the ball back. Frankenmuth would miss the front end of a 1 and 1 and give the Chargers a chance to tie it. Owen Lobsinger brought the ball up the floor and found Cole Malenich for a wide open 3 point shot. Cole’s shot misfired and after a scrum their was loose ball foul sending Cole Malenich to the line with .5 seconds to play. After an official’s time out and them ruling Elijah Redds was the shooter instead of Malenich. Redds went to the line and calmly sank both free throws sending the game into OT.
