Last night’s Varsity volleyball game against the Davison Cardinals proved to the crowd why it is one of the most highly anticipated matches of the season. While the Chargers did not take home the big W, they did fight for five games against the Cardinals, coming from behind multiple times and winning two sets of the match.
Davison won first in a close game (22-25). Powers Catholic rallied back winning the second (26-24) and third (25-21) games shortly after. However, when Davison took the fourth game (18-25), forcing a 5th, the Chargers were unfortunately not able to execute the victory.
Despite the loss, the Lady Chargers had some stellar performances. Sophomore Madison Gebhardt led the team with 4 of the team’s 12 serving aces, 18 kills, and 15 digs. Offensively, senior Gaby Clark (10 kills) and junior Ava Morris (7 kills) also contributed, while senior setter Mariah Brenz had 27 assists. Defensively, Brenz had 16 digs, Clark had 13, junior Ava Stravato had 10, and junior Ali Reinig had 8. Morris also had 2 blocks for the match.
The girls are looking to learn from their mistakes and grow before the Goodrich Invite this weekend at Goodrich High School, where they will take on Notre Dame Prep, Goodrich, and Eisenhower in pool play. They are hoping for a repeat of last weekend’s tournament!
